Welcome to Dragon Breath Grotto

Dragon Breath Grotto is a Venturing Program focused on Caving and related activities.

DBG WindCave 016

This is an Independent Youth Grotto specifically for young men and women 14 (or 13 and completed the 8th grade) to 21 years old. We are registered with a Venturing Crew, but, we are run like a Grotto of the National Speleological Society with the help and support of the Philadelphia Grotto.

Dragon Breath Grotto Members

Meetings are mostly virtual. Because of this our members are from different parts of Pennsylvania and youth from New Jersey, Maryland, and Delaware are also welcome as members. Our members are also active members of their own primary Venturing Crews. Other than caving activities, we get together several times a year for social activities.

We go on trips at least once a month exploring local caves. Weekend and longer trips are planned by the youth members of the Crew. The possibilities are limited only by our members ambition and imagination.

Check the calendar frequently for updays and contact us to make plans to join us on one of these adventures. advisor@dragonbreathgrotto.org

Yes We Can Take Your Crew or Troop Caving (Spelunking)

Are you just a little bit curious about what it's like to go cave exploring?
Until you experience it for yourself you'll have to take our word for it. This is the most challenging and fun adventure you'll ever do.

Would you like to go with us?
Anyone who meets the age requirements of 14 to 21 years of age and in good physical condition can try.

How much does it cost to go cave exploring?
All caves are different and require different personal safety equipment. If you are just starting out we try to keep your first experience affordable. Generally old cloths, boots, and gloves is what you will need. We have specific gear that you will need that you can use for the day.

Would you like to take your Crew, Troop, or other youth group, club, or organization cave exploring?
Just let us know. We work closely with the Boy Scouts of America and the National Speleological Society and follow all policies to help you plan a safe and ethical caving trip you'll enjoy.

Would you like to earn the Venturing Cave Exploring Elective?
Of course you still need to learn the material and do all the work. We can help guide you through it, answer any questions, and just have fun with it. There are no short cuts. We know how to help you discover all the answers and council with the projects.

For more information and to schedule a trip, send us an email to advisor@dragonbreathgrotto.org.

Information you need to know for caving

DBG WindCave 009

There are a few things that are useful to have while caving. To be safe you must have the minimum equipment on this list.

The Boy Scouts of America and the National Speleological Society have co-authored a document on safe and ethical caving policies. Dragon Breath follows this policy.

Don't let lack of equipment stop you from joining in the adventure. Let us know your concerns and issues.
